First Time Home Buyers

First Time Homebuyer’s Education Class is offered for clients that are purchasing their first home. The class teaches clients about the home buying process, managing money, credit and home maintenance. It is a very in depth class filled with information that is a necessity for success in purchasing a first home.

Participants have to develop a spending plan during the class and find ways to reduce debt and save money. Clients receive a book while interacting with power points, lecture and video. Classes are offered on monthly basis and as needed by clientele. Participants can take the class online for $99 at https://www.ehomeamerica.org/. In person classes are also available for a 4 hour session at $25 (THDA loans) and $60 (USDA loans). Group classes are held 3 times per year. For more information call (615) 597-4945.

Free HUD counseling is also available for individuals or families who need education on foreclosure prevention and financial management. UT Extension DeKalb County is a Fair Housing Agency partner with HUD.
